My name is Julie Tipton. I teach 8th grade science at Lyons Middle School, am a mother of 4 and raise goats on our small farm just south of Kanopolis Lake. Our 8th grade curriculum is divided between Earth and Space science. I've currently divided up the Earth science portion into 4 units based on the 'systems': Atmosphere, Lithosphere, Hydrosphere and Biosphere. With the adoption of the NGSS I am looking to expand and improve some curriculum areas and this course seemed like a great fit. Looking forward to working with all of you:)
Hello, my name is Cathy Jones. I teach high school science at Lakeside High School. My courses include Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy, and Earth/Space Science. I am excited to take this class because I feel that wind energy is an important topic in Western Kansas and I think my students need to be more aware of it.
My name is Rhonda Farwell. I currently teach junior high math and science in the Waconda School District. Most of our junior high science curriculum consist of Life and Earth Science. I am weak in the area of alternative energy and am hoping this course will strengthen my abilities to understand and teach the importance of these resources to our future generation.
Hi, my name is Kathy Gaston. I am a Middle/Jr. High School Librarian at Lakeside Middle/Jr. High School at Cawker City, Kansas. I want to learn more about Wind Energy because it seems to have so many exciting possibilities. And, we all know how much wind we have here in Kansas!
+Hi, my name is Cynthia Goth. I teach 5th Grade in Lakeside Middle School, USD 272. Science is my 'thing' and I try to keep current and have fun interactive lessons for the students. Wind energy seems to be tailormade for Kansas, especially lately!
My name is Carlotta Patterson. I teach 7th and 8th grade integrated science, 8th grade reading and high school Chemistry at Sublette Middle/High School in Sublette, KS. I have used parts of the Kid Wind Curriculum the past two years with my 7th and 8th graders. I like the hands on activities and want to incorporate a bigger variety of concepts into alternative energy units because I find my students to be interested in the big idea of conservation. I am also beginning a master's program at FHSU and will be using this course as part of those requirements.
Hello, my name is Kathryn George. I currently teach SPED science, US history, and US government at GBHS. Well-rounded I am not, my first love are the social sciences. I am learning right along with the kids and this is a way for me to expand my understanding. My husband also insisted I take this class so I can be the intelligent one in our marriage. There are several farmers around us who have invested in wind energy so this is not new to our area.
